One of my goals when I found out that I was pregnant was to go ahead and run the Virginia 10 Miler again. Last year was the first year I had run it and I had so much fun that I knew I wanted to do it again.
I checked with my running buddy to make sure she wouldn’t mind a slower (much, much slower I was afraid) pace, and she was game! On September 28, 2013 Baby D and I joined Megan and about 4,000 other runners and walkers who were out to finish the 10 Miler, the 4 Mile run or the 4 Mile walk.
I got a few new people involved this year. My mother, father and Hubby’s aunt walked the 4 Miler and one of my younger sisters ran it. My youngest sisters (they are 9) completed the Amazing Mile again (as they had last year), and Hubby’s cousin ran the 10 Miler “with” me (she had about a 30 minute faster finishing time than I did). It’s fun to exert some positive peer pressure on friends and family. 🙂
All in all, it was a great time (oh, and there were only 2 extra bathroom breaks for this preggo). It was significantly more difficult and it did take us 25 minutes longer than last year, but I was thrilled to have been able to finish (just to put it in perspective, I was one week away from being 6 months pregnant). From here on out until Baby D is born, I’ll probably stick to 5Ks, but I’ll deinitely be back for the 2014 Virginia 10 Miler!
