The weekend started off cold here in Virginia. (If this Friday and Saturday were any indications, it is going to be a bitter cold winter!) I am very thankful that we have access to firewood and a woodstove in our basement to help keep the house warm.
Being the crazy person that I am, Running Buddy & I were signed up for a 5k this weekend. After a dismal winter of running last year, RB and I knew that the best way to at least attempt to maintain our fitness levels would be to sign up for at least one race per month. After the 10-miler, though, I realized that it was going to be a lot easier on my body to stick with 5k (or comparable distances) until Baby D graces us with his presence. This month’s race was the I Am Woman 5k. It was 28 degrees at the start of the race, people. And it’s still October!!
As you can probably imagine, it was a little tough to warm up, but after the first half mile or so, RB and I started adding a bit of jogging in. I realized, almost a mile in, that I had forgotten to double-knot my shoelaces – a rookie mistake, though I suppose it doesn’t particularly matter when you’re just racing for fun. Other than the cold temperatures, it was a beautiful morning and we finished the 5k in about 44:30.
Hubby & I got to enjoy watching some games this weekend, and get very frustrated at others. Thankfully, the Flyers pulled out a win (thanks in no small part to a hat trick by Vinny) and Notre Dame had a very strong game (since when did NBC stop broadcasting all of the ND games, by the way?), but the Eagles put up a dismal performance against the Giants on Sunday. Oh well, at least the other NFC East teams lost as well!
