How To Make a Felt Toy Garden

‘Even if it’s raining and cold, you can still have a garden to ease your soul’.

It’s easier than you might think to make your very own indoor garden toy. Even all the felt accessories aren’t so bad. Once you get the hang of the felt, it’s pretty simple to make whatever your imagination allows. Especially, with the added magic of a glue gun. If you don’t already have one, I highly suggest getting one. It was a savior! I would just make a couple of things a day, and in a week, I had everything you see here. This garden has my daughter’s imaginations in full gear!

Everything is movable to play with. The wire on each accessory, sticks into the styrofoam base, which is covered in brown burlap.

Here, you can see how I made the box:

1. The Box

I acquired this wine crate a while ago, from a boutique store in my town. You can ask your local wine store if they have any. Or, try asking the supermarket for wooden fruit boxes. Use what works for you. Even a shirt box would do!

2. The supplies needed for the entire project include:

  • Box
  • Styrofoam or Gardening Foam
  • Packaging Tape
  • Felt
  • Glue Gun
  • Wire
  • Scissors
  • Regular Thread
  • Embroidery Thread

3. Burlap

I used brown burlap for the soil. I picked burlap specifically, because it has little holes in it which will allow the wire to go through.

4. Cutting

Cut the Styrofoam or Gardening Foam down to the size of your box. I placed an empty cereal box under mine, to elevate it a little.

5. Wrapping

Wrap the burlap around it and hold it in place with packaging tape. Place it into the box.

That’s it! You’re ready to make all your garden details!
